Chalmers Mackay offers a multi-instrumental Education Facility, catering for all age and standard of pupils.

Founded in 1988 by Ruby Mackay, the School has flourished over the years into one of the largest Private Music Schools in the North East of Scotland, boasting a strong array of qualified tutors in keyboard, strings, woodwind, brass, percussion and theory.

There are 3 different VENUES to choose from….

41 High Street, Inverurie; 37 Dee Street, Aberdeen; 3 Forest Road, Kintore.

All Studios have tutorial rooms fully equipped for teaching individual or group lessons.

The Main OFFICE is at 41 High Street Inverurie with office staff in attendance daily from

Monday to Wednesday 9am – 5pm, Thursday to Saturday 9am – 1pm

There’s a lot on offer to consider…

COURSES are based round the choices of Classical, Pop/Rock, Jazz, Theory. The emphasise is very much on enjoyment, with students encouraged to progress at their own pace, but also challenging the more musically gifted through the exam and performance opportunities happening throughout the 40 week Yearly Session.

All TUTORS have recognised teaching qualifications and current PVG Disclosures, followIng their own structured method of teaching for their particular instrument/ voice. Pupils are given the option of having an assessment at the end of the Annual Session (end of June/start of July) to give an indication of progress made. The Music School strives to offer a high standard of service, and holds ‘in-service’ days for the teaching staff regularly.

LESSON duration can be chosen out of 15 mins, 30 mins, 45mins – 1 hour time scales, dependent on the age and requirements of the pupil. All lessons are arranged via the Main office at 41 High Street Inverurie. Initially there is an assessment lesson followed by a trial 8 weeks, after which the pupil is fully enrolled into Termly commitments. The Schools Terms and Conditions apply after the assessment lesson.

Chalmers Mackay encourages all pupils to get the most out of their time at the School. There are opportunities to sit exams (initial up to Diploma), play or sing in any of the Public performances, get involved in the Bands or ensembles running at weekends, support the Charity work the School does every Year, or get a recording done at the 24 track recording Studio housed at the Kintore Studio.
