Hi, I’m Cat. I have been a pupil at Chalmers and MacKay for…about a year and a half, give or take a few months. I started singing when I was 14 (before then I didn’t even know I could sing!), and shook like a leaf at the thought of anyone hearing my voice. I was such a nervous character back then, but my passion and love for singing and music grew and grew, and now I am sitting my Grade 6 Pop Vocals exam and have sung to a crowd of hundreds at a recent gig in Cults, Aberdeen. It’s a job to get me to be quiet these days!
I don’t like the thought of being confined to one genre of music; I can listen to Paul Simon, Vivaldi, Katy Perry, Wings, Glenn Miller and Alison Krauss in a single sitting. Similarly, I like to sing a bit of everything too. I love ballads but then again I love pop—both recent releases and older records.
I have been writing my own songs since I was 15 (I’m 19 now), either accompanying myself on piano or creating backing tracks on Garageband, which I love so much that in my lunch break at work you’d often find me sitting in a corner with my headphones on, trying to work out a chorus or a verse!
I love melody, I love rhythm, I love having a mic and a backing track to sing my heart out to, and I love to perform. I am a perfectionist and I always want to perform well, which is why I find it so rewarding to hear people applaud me for doing something that makes me so happy and nervous and excited all at once!
